GTA VI Could Come to Nintendo Switch 2 — Industry Insider Reports

Nintendo industry insider Nash Weedle claims a source has told him a GTA VI port for Nintendo Switch 2 may be ready in time for launch. Weedle himself remains skeptical — and there's no confirmation from Rockstar.

A new claim from Nash Weedle, a Nintendo-focused industry insider with a generally reliable track record, suggests that GTA VI may launch on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.

What Weedle Said

In a May 8 update, Weedle reported:

A source has told me that the Nintendo Switch 2 version may be ready in time for launch. I am personally skeptical — but I'm reporting what I've been told.

He went on to caveat heavily:

  • He does not expect the Switch 2 version to appear in the next trailer, which will focus on PS5/Xbox showcase footage
  • He believes Rockstar will continue to prioritize the technical showcase value of GTA VI on flagship hardware
  • The Switch 2 version, if real, would be a separate marketing beat likely held back to closer to launch

    • Why This Is Plausible

    Several factors make the rumor less implausible than it first sounds:

  • 1.Switch 2 hardware is more capable than its predecessor — it can credibly run scaled-down current-gen titles
  • 2.Rockstar has a precedent for late-cycle ports — GTA V launched on PS3/Xbox 360 in 2013 and was still being ported to new platforms through 2022
  • 3.Take-Two has publicly stated it wants GTA VI on as many platforms as possible over time
  • 4.A simultaneous Switch 2 launch would significantly expand the addressable market

  • Rockstar has never confirmed Switch 2 as a launch platform

    Take-Two's May 21 earnings call is the most likely venue for any platform expansion announcement — investors will explicitly ask about TAM (total addressable market), and a Switch 2 mention would materially affect FY27 guidance.

    Until then, treat this as plausible but unverified.
