The Kortz Center Heist: GTA Online's Last Big Score Before GTA 6
Rockstar dropped GTA Online's first major heist since Cayo Perico on July 14 — an art forgery job at the Kortz Center. It also looks a lot like a goodbye. Here is the update, the rewards, and what it signals.
The first real heist since 2020
On July 14, 2026, Rockstar released The Kortz Center Heist, GTA Online's Summer 2026 DLC — and the game's first major heist addition since the Cayo Perico Heist in December 2020.
Nearly six years between heists, and this one lands four months before Grand Theft Auto VI. That timing is doing a lot of work.
What the heist is
The job takes place at the Kortz Center museum, working alongside Mr. Faber and Raf De Angelis to steal valuable artwork.
The twist is what makes it interesting: rather than a straight smash-and-grab, you team up with a counterfeiter to produce fake versions of the paintings, then swap the forgeries in for the originals during the heist. A theft nobody notices is worth more than one that triggers an alarm — a genuinely different structure to GTA Online's previous scores.
Longtime players will recognise the Kortz Center as an existing GTA V location, repurposed here rather than built new.
Rewards
The heist landed at the tail end of the Fine Art Collector Program, which ran from June 18 through July 13. Reward tiers were:
| Tier | Requirement | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Enthusiast | Log in during the period | GTA$500,000 + Benefactor Turreted Limo |
| Patron | Complete any Heist | GTA$1,000,000 + NOOSE Outfit |
| Elitist | Own a Mansion | GTA$1,000,000 discount on the Art Studio expansion + Annihilator Stealth |
Players who logged in before July 13 qualified for the Mansion-owner tier benefits. All players participating during the promotional window could earn the GTA$500,000 and the free Turreted Limo.
Free to play through July 20
Alongside the update, Rockstar made GTA Online free to play until July 20 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — with no PlayStation Plus or Game Pass Essential subscription required.
That is an unusually generous window, and the reasoning is not hard to work out: get as many lapsed players back into the ecosystem as possible while GTA 6 pre-orders are open.
The teaser at the end
Finish the Kortz Center Heist and Mr. Faber calls your character, teasing that he will be in touch again soon.
There is no official confirmation of what that means. The community read is that Rockstar is signalling at least one more significant GTA Online beat before November. Rockstar has separately teased that more updates are coming.
The Red Dead 2 precedent
This is the part worth paying attention to. In 2018, ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar ran a Treasure Hunt and a Bounty Hunter challenge in GTA Online that unlocked the Double-Action Revolver and Stone Hatchet in RDR2 for players who completed them.
The expectation — reported widely, confirmed nowhere — is that Rockstar will run something equivalent between now and November: GTA Online challenges that unlock cosmetic or vehicle rewards carried into GTA 6.
Nothing of the sort has been announced. But the playbook exists, the game is free to play, and Mr. Faber said he would call back.
Is this GTA Online's last update?
Possibly, in the sense of *last major content DLC*. After thirteen years, a final heist is a fitting close, and Rockstar's attention is obviously elsewhere.
But GTA Online has outlived every prediction of its death, GTA 6 ships without an online mode at launch, and the standalone GTA 6 online component is coming later rather than day one. That leaves a gap — and Rockstar has never been in a hurry to switch off a revenue stream that still works.
Expect weekly event updates to continue well past November.
